Coopers' Minipi Camps |
January, 2007 – Check it out! We've relaunched our web site We've been the only fly-fishing site with a complete – going back 20 years – INTERACTIVE LOGBOOK of every fish caught over 3 pounds – naming the lake, the fly and the angler. Now we have a whole google of new materials to inform and delight you. You can watch and/or download our entire 12 minute live-action video. There's a PHOTO GALLERY where you can now download your own trophy pictures; a FLY BOX with pictures and tying recipes now with comments by guides and anglers on the 24 favorite flies listed plus additional flies; and one of those newfangled blogs, a WEB LOG where you can read and leave comments…in other words, interact with fellow anglers, and learn more about Labrador, the “lost world of monster brookies” and our new ONLINE STORE (coming soon) where you can buy Minipi logo gear and more. I know I've forgotten stuff. So, pick up your mouse and explore.
Four of a kind – Jack Cooper takes over the operation of Little Minipi Lake Lodge Now you can choose, not from just three, but from four lodges – Minipi, Anne Marie and Minonipi…and now Little Minipi Lodge. This small, comfortable lodge, owned and operated for years by Harvey Calden, is down-river from the big lake. It's got the same big brookies, char and lunker pike in two lakes, one roughly 9 miles long, the other 3 miles long with innumerable coves, inlets, and plenty of wade-able river, riffles, and rapids (some right within walking distance of the cabin.) Add another chapter to your Minipi adventures, take a trip down river to Little Minipi Lake Lodge.
The NEW Anne Marie Lodge – Open for occupancy 2007 One night the guides and the then Anne Marie housekeeper, Molly, were playing darts in the guides' cabin beneath an array of Playboy centerfolds nailed to the rafters. That most taciturn of guides, Howard Guptill, was snoozing on his bunk. It was Molly's turn. She paused, held the dart in front of her nose, looked up wistfully at the ladies on the rafters, and asked, “Ay, wot, byes, ya suppose I godda do ta look like onna them beauties?” Guptill, without opening his eyes, replied, “Be reincarnated.”
Minipi Outfitters – Our new store in Goose Bay You're in the Minipi Camps van on your way to Otter Creek for your flight out to the lodge of your choice. Oops, you forgot to stock up on big flies, and you left your long johns on the bed back home. Not to worry. Robin Cooper has opened MINIPI OUTFITTERS. He's got everything you'll need to make your trip comfortable and successful. Sure, we'll hold the plane while you pick up those last minute items.
Introducing Cooper Air, offering fly-outs from the lodges to remote lakes and rivers That's right. We now have our own plane, a spiffy-looking, dependable Beaver DeHaviland. Completely refitted with the latest of everything. Now, not only do we have more flexibility in scheduling flights from Otter Creek out to the lodges, but we can also offer day-trip fly-outs from the lodges to even more remote lakes. To waters that have never–ever–been fished before. Virgin territory. Hey, maybe we should call it Virgin Access Air–but I think that's already taken.
